Narrowing Degrees of Separation

Today the body of U.S. Army Sgt. Raymond C. Alcaraz, 20, of Redlands was returned home. He died Tuesday in Logar Province, Afghanistan. He and three other soldiers died of wounds suffered when their vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device.

He was young enough to be one of my children, as a matter of fact, some of my son's friends were Alcaraz's friend. It is the cruelest sort of "degrees of separation," and a stark reminder of how close this war hits home. I would wager that you, each one of you reading this right now, is "six degrees" of separation from someone who has died in Iraq or Afghanistan.

If you know me, if you've read this blog, you know I support our military men and women. But, it's time to bring all of our children home, before the degrees of separation narrow for another Mother and Father, brother and sister, aunt and uncle...

Ecclesiastes 3:8 ...a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

The time for peace is now.

I am with you all the way! I was so touched by the pictures of his return home and proud to be the wife and mother of a firefighter.
